The workers showed strong solidarity in defending their pay and working conditions
Following 12 August's industrial action, negotiations re-opened and five meetings were held between the social partners and the Wood Group. The proposed solution resulting from these negotiations will be put to ballot from 12 till 22 September. "The proposal we are putting to members will still involve a large degree of sacrifice on their part. Wood Group has made concessions on key areas of competency and flexibility payments that will reduce the impact of the cuts they originally put forward." explained John Boland, Unite regional officer. Shop stewards stressed that the proposal that will be submitted on 12 September was the best that they could achieve, given the current situation.
IndustriAll European Trade Union and its affiliated organisations took a strong position in this conflict. Solidarity messages and messages of support
were sent by many trade unions. "We congratulate Unite, RMT and all of the workers at Wood Group for keeping the pressure on during this conflict, and for pushing the company to go for a negotiated solution. The workers showed strong solidarity in defending their pay and working conditions and thanks to that, a proposed solution is now being put to the ballot for all of the workers to have their say. Solidarity works!" declared Luc Triangle, industriAll Europe General Secretary.
