IndustriAll Europe expresses full solidarity with this new trade union and its members. We expect the company to uphold the fundamental principles of industrial relations. Should the company fail to do so, the organised workers and VDSZ can count on the support of their European federation.
Representing over 7 million workers, industriAll Europe will not be silent when workers assert their basic rights. Trade union organising is protected under ILO Core Conventions, particularly Nos. 87 and 98, both ratified by Hungary.
Any form of union-busting or anti-union behaviour is unacceptable and will be met with strong condemnation. We urge Samsung SDI management to adhere to European values and recognise VDSZ as a legitimate social partner. This electric vehicle battery plant was granted €89.6 million in investment aid by the EU Commission in 2023.
Samsung must engage in good-faith negotiations with its workers’ representatives, focusing on:
- Occupational health and safety
- Fair and predictable working conditions, including wages
Judith Kirton-Darling, General Secretary of industriAll Europe, states:
“Strong industries require strong social dialogue. Workers’ voices must be heard and respected. Social dialogue is at the heart of the European social model, and Samsung SDI cannot be an exception.”
