We express our full solidarity with the thousands of workers and families who will demonstrate today and go on an 8-hour strike to defend the future of their jobs and industry.

Industrial action will be organised against the backdrop of an unprecedented crisis. The present-day severe situation has mainly been caused by a dramatic downsizing of the automotive industry, which is of vital importance to the region. Stellantis’ Mirafiori plant is at the heart of the crisis.

To make Turin's economy thrive again, it is necessary to preserve and relaunch Stellantis with all its related activities. In concrete terms, we would like to see a robust industrial plan supporting the development of production at Mirafiori including investment on design, research, and engineering as well as employment prospects and re-/upskilling programmes to accompany workers in the digital and green transitions. Special attention must be paid to the development of production of components/equipment intended for electric and hydrogen vehicles.

In a joint letter, IndustriALL Global Union and industriAll Europe urge the management of Stellantis, in close dialogue with trade unions and Italian authorities, to foster innovation, growth and prosperity in the region. At a time of tremendous transformation of the automotive industry, together with our affiliated trade union organisations, we will continue to fight for just transitions which secure that no one and no region is left behind.
